Greenberg, Harold M. "Research Note: The Doolittle Commission of 1954." Intelligence and National Security 20, no. 4 (Dec. 2005): 687-694.

This is an effort to resurrect the Doolittle Commission's review of covert action from the dustbin of history, to which it has been consigned by many historians. The main point is that "the secrecy of its progress and the narrow dissemination of its report cast doubt that the Doolittle Commission was calculated simply to outmaneuver Congress."

"While news of blatant attempts at behavioral control have had immediate shock value, the CIA's support of basic research has had the more lingering effect of posing many difficult and complex questions and issues for psychologists.... The CIA's key instrument for sponsoring basic research in psychology, sociology and anthropology in the decade from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s was the Society for the Investigation of Human Ecology, later called the Human Ecology Fund.... Psychological Assessment Associates, a private consulting firm,... was the CIA's successor to Human Ecology."

Greenslade, Rush V. "CIA Meets the Press." Studies in Intelligence 13, no. 2 (Spring 1969): 3-10.

President Johnson wanted a late-1963 CIA assessment of the Soviet economy to be released to the public. Release of the report at the CIA's first press conference led to more speculation about the CIA's motives for releasing the story than about the state of the Soviet economy. In the longer run, the CIA estimate of a slowed growth in the Soviet economy became accepted.

Greenslade, Rush V. "The Many Burdens of Defense in the Soviet Union." Studies in Intelligence 14, no. 2 (Fall 1970): 1-12

The author argues that the "proper measure of the burden of defense is its opportunity cost, that is, the value of alternative goods and services done without in order to acquire defense." (Italics in original)

Greenslade, Rush V. "Rubles Versus Dollars." Studies in Intelligence 6, no. 1 (Winter 1962): 1-11.

This article explains why "dollar and ruble comparisons [of the U.S. and Soviet GNPs] are not so good, and the geometric mean not nearly so bad, as critics have alleged."

Keiser, Proceedings 134.8 (Aug. 2008), notes the author's view that "U.S. involvement in Central America during the 1980s clearly demonstrated the limits of intervention and use of force in internal conflicts." This work show that Greentree's "experience as a U.S. foreign service officer in Central America and his professorship at the Naval War College have served him well."
